The We Are Family campaign was announced by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, General-Director, World Health Organization during a press conference with Kim Sledge and the Natasha Mudhar, Founder of The World We Want.
During the event, Dr Tedros reiterated the importance of bringing the world together as ONE GLOBAL FAMILY to address challenges and the importance of national unity and global solidarity.
Kim Sledge is a vocalist, philanthropist, novelist, songwriter, producer and minister, and member of the world renowned recording group Sister Sledge.
She was asked by a close family friend from Chicago, Lou Weisbach, to re-record We Are Family to bring the “world family” together in it’s fight against COVID-19.
The Sledge family have performed all over the world to bring unity, joy, light and hope to all age groups from 6 to 96. Their performance and mantra of We Are Family has won the hearts of all cultures, nations and peoples from Tokyo to the Congo. With the Washington Post and the Chicago Sun-Times in their own words stating that Sister Sledge is a group that only legends are made of, The Sledge Sisters continue to shine ever so brightly even today.
In a mission to use the power of music to create Unity and Solidarity, Kim has also produced a new song called Unity Strong Come Together with Family Sledge. It represents a special light of hope from the Sledge family which continues to shine ever so brightly even today.
Lou Weisbach is Kim Sledge’s close family friend and the inspiration for the release of the special edition cover of the We Are Family hit. He is a Chicago based serial entrepreneur with a focus on entertainment, marketing and social impact ventures, and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MerchTime LLC, a marketing services and promotional products start-up.
Building on his years of experience, Lou is working on a new model that will revolutionize the promotional products industry globally. His marketing and promotional expertise stems from his time as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of HA-LO Advertising Specialties, which became the world’s largest promotional products company, touching revenues that were close to $770 million. With a passion for sports development, he was Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Stadium Capital Financing Group (SCFG), a majority-owned entity of Morgan Stanley Principal Investments which created a new form of finance for professional sports teams and university athletic departments without debt.
A crusader for cures, he originated the concept of The American Center for Cures in 2000, seeking to create a new pathway towards curing diseases utilizing a focused, accountable, mission based globally integrated approach. He was the President of Jefferson Trust for the Democratic Party and past Chairman of the Giving Back Fund, an organization that managed foundations for athletes and entertainers. Lou recently held a senior role at Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
It is no surprise that Lou was named “Man of the Year” by Counselor Magazine and has been on several corporate and charity boards. Lou is involved in a major entertainment initiative, “The Lost Lands of Oz”, that includes television programming, motion pictures, musical theatre and theme parks.
In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Lou is currently leading efforts with other scientists and business leaders in the USA as part of the Americans Joining Together to Fight COVID-19 initiative to tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic. The project involves establishing a weekly testing program to serve all Americans, with results provided electronically as a QR code. Quick and painless sample collection for the tests would be available at tens of thousands of drug stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and retailers all across America. People who test negative could be granted access to their workplace, schools, or other public or private gatherings, with the knowledge that everyone at these locations will have tested negative recently. Those testing positive would be quarantined and contact traced, creating a process that will help return Americans to normalcy. Modeling suggests that even moderate participation levels (75%) will significantly reduce additional deaths (by 89%).

We intend to bring EVERYONE together through the universal power of music, to show solidarity during the COVID-19 pandemic and to address global public health needs from prevention, mental health, and noncommunicable diseases to emergency preparedness, outbreak response, and health system strengthening.
That’s why a portion of the proceeds from the song download will support the WHO Foundation to address these critical global health needs, including in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
